Most of the world’s fresh water . . . isn’t so fresh, in fact it would make a person sick or even kill them if ingested – so, let’s get into the review – and maybe you can decide if the Survivor Filter Pro belongs in preparedness kit.
I was so clueless . . .
When I first got into survival and preparedness, I didn’t know much about water filtration. In fact, I remember going out to a remote location, with a crappy water filter, to do some camping. “Don’t all water filters do the same thing?” That’s what I would have said.
I was invited to do some rustic camping with acquaintances, so everyone showed up with different gear. I noticed some people had high-end water filters, and some had to build fires to boil water.
As I talked to the other campers about their water filtration / purification setups, I realized there was a lot that goes into making clean water. And while I used my crappy water filter once without having any issues, I boiled my water for the rest of the trip.
It made me wonder . . .
- If I couldn’t boil water in an emergency, would I trust my crappy survival filter to keep me from getting a virus or other nasties?
- Even more so . . . water filter product should I get in case of a long-term disaster??
- What should I be looking for in a bug out bag water filter?
- How much water does my filter process before it’s dead?
- What nasties will my water filter remove?
I’ve got answers to all these questions . . . (well my opinion anyway 😊)
So, this camping trip inspired me to really learn more about water filtration and what I may need to purchase . . .
And while I’ve had a lot of water filters over the years, I’d like to share one that addresses all of these questions – let’s take a look.
Survivor Filter Pro – Features
Enter in the Survivor Filter Pro – which is made by . . . you guessed it, Survivor Filter. A quick review of the Survivor Filter Pro website says the company was founded by a veteran who used to do military consulting as well. They’re based out of New York, and the product is made overseas.
Most of their sales appear to come by way of Amazon. With that said, in most places in the U.S. you can get the Survivor Filter Pro on your doorstep in 2 business days.
Survivor Filter Pro – Cost
At the time of this article – the Survivor Filter Pro costs $65, with free shipping if you have Amazon prime. Take a look below at its features, and you’ll probably agree that this is relatively inexpensive . . .
A compact, lite weight survival filter that removes heavy metals, viruses and all other nasties - add one to your bug out bag today!

Remember, the Survivor Filter Pro is a 3 stage, hand-held portable water filter – which cleans heavy metals, viruses and bacterial out of any water source to 99.99%.
From the Survivor Filter website:
“The SURVIVOR FILTER PRO Portable Water Filter Pump is the best of its kind on the market today. With a filtration level to an unbelievable 0.01 microns, the highest level available on the market today for any kind of portable water filter. Proven 0.01 micron protection against tested virus, bacteria, parasites, while reducing most heavy metals and improving water taste.
Tested at Multiple USA labs to show:
- Log 5 Removal 99.999% of Protozoa (Cryptosporidium, Giardia and Parasites)
- Log 5 Removal 99.999% of tested Virus (Phi X-174), Staph and Bacteria
- 99.5% Mercury and 93% Lead Removal which matches or exceeds most home systems”
Not all water filters are the same though . . . many water filters only down to 0.1 microns, only removing most bacteria and protozoa – letting waterborne viruses through.
The Survivor Filter Pro is different – it’s down to 0.01 micron filtration!!! Even some of the best Sawyer water filters I had only filtered down to 0.02 micron . . .
Survivor Filter Pro – Water processing capacity
So, how long before this water filter just doesn’t work anymore??
That’s just it, the Survivor Filter Pro is a sustainable product. Remember the 3-stage filter? Here are the standard stage capacities:

Survivor Filter Pro – Back Up Parts
You guessed it, survivor filter pro makes replacement filters, so even after 2,000 liters for the carbon filter – you can have several more on hand (they’re only $15 each).
And, this is the same with the pre-filter and internal ultra-filter – they only cost $15 each.
How much water does a family need?
Figure a gallon of drinking water a day per person in your household. In hot weather it could be more, especially if you’re doing manual labor. *In a survival or disaster situation, I figure that as a given assumption.
Up to the time you needed to replace the first carbon filter, you would get approximately 528 days of water for 1 person or over 4 months of water for a family of 4.
I like how affordable the replacement filters are, and that you can extend the life of the filters by cleaning them – take a look:
Survivor Filter Pro – Impressions & Performance
Opening the box up, the filter is neatly tucked up, with manual, parts, carrying bag, etc.
I noticed right away how light weight this filter is. It’s all plastic parts. So the good thing is – it won’t weigh your pack down . . . seriously. It feels like holding a feather.
Box included:
- Survivor Filter PRO Pump
- Ultra Filter Pre-Filter
- Carbon Filter
- Internal Ultra Filter
- Inlet Hose
- Outlet Hose
- Hose Clip
- Carrying Case
- Back-washing Syringe
- User Manual
Using the Survivor Filter Pro
Because I was excited to try this out – I ran right out to the ditch where rainwater collects and started using it. It’s easy to pump, and you get about 16 oz a minute. I found a constant easy pumping rate worked better as my arm doesn’t tire so fast.
*Also note, you have to keep the pumping arm straight . . . its plastic, and could snap if you don’t . . .
So, now the water . . . it was murky brown with some sediment – on the other end, clean drinking water with almost no taste. I was pretty impressed.
In the bug out bag – I keep my survivor filter pro in the top compartment of my Kelty bug out bag – it keeps it free from being smashed or dropped and is easy to access.
Want to know what surprised me?
Two things – The lifetime warranty. I know these are made overseas, and the product, for what it is, it’s relatively inexpensive. So, the lifetime warranty is a great confidence boost for consumers.
The other thing is the availability of replacement filters, and the associated cost – they’re $15 each – I’ll buy a bunch and be set for life!
Product Improvements?
Maybe the pumping arm could be made out of a sturdier material. Is it going to stop me from using this product or stocking up on one for each of my family members? Not at all. But if Survivor Filter is reading this – I’d accept a little extra weight in this area.
Other than that – I think Survivor Filter nailed it with this product.
Wrapping Up
This is a PERFECT affordable water filter that any family can afford. So should this make it into your bug out bag? I’d say yes. Also, replacement parts are a good idea as well.
At the end of the day – when it comes to water filters, there are two questions:
- What does it filter out?
- What’s the filter’s processing capacity?
And because you can get over a year’s capacity and everything from dissolved metals to viruses and bacteria filtered out with this product – I recommend it to keep your family hydrated in an emergency or survival situation. Not to mention, there’s the ability to stock up on affordable replacement cartridges – this is a no brainer . . .
Again – We won’t recommend products that we don’t personally use and or test (and pass testing with flying colors) – You can pick yours up through this link – and it helps out Positive Trend Preparedness.
